Learning About Recycling Services

Hello, I am Jolene Bonnell. I am going to use my site to discuss all of the techniques and tools you can use to recycle waste. There are a number of recycling programs in each community. You can recycle your electronics, scrap metal, cardboard and textiles if you know where to find your local drop off points. Some communities even provide food waste recycling services that turn old food into compost. I hope you can use the information on my site to increase the amount of waste you recycle at the proper venues. Thanks for visiting. I hope to see you again soon.

Ways To Recycle Old Wood Furniture

Nelli Joki

Do you have old wood furniture collecting dust in storage or up in an attic? It's not antique and doesn't have any worth, so what do you do with it? There are a few ways that you can recycle old lumber. Recycling lumber is good for the environment because it doesn't end up in a landfill. Landfills take up precious space and treated lumber can leak chemicals into the ground.

Reclaimed Lumber

Reclaimed lumber is lumber that has been reused to make something new. Pieces of wood from an old desk might become a wooden lounge chair. Beams from an old barn might become decorative beams in a restaurant. No matter how old and seemingly rotted your old furniture, it could become something new and beautiful. Give the lumber away for free or even sell it to furniture companies that specialize in reclaimed furniture.

Donations

Want to do something good for the environment and for society at the same time? If you have old furniture that isn't too broken, you can donate it to local charities and organizations. They can fix up the furniture and give it to needy families. The same can be done with some lumber, which can be used to build homes for low-income families. Find local organizations that accept these types of donations. It might not count as a tax write-off because the furniture has no worth, but you'll feel good about helping the neighborhood.

Biomass Fuel

Biomass is any organic compound that can be used as fuel to create energy. Wood products are the most common type of biomass used to create bio fuel. Bio fuel is great for the environment because it uses up ingredients that would normally sit in a landfill. You can use your old furniture as fuel in your own home, such as in a wood-burning stove, or you can give or sell the wood to a biomass company that specializes in using wood for bio fuel.

Mulch

Mulch helps your gardens grow by putting nutrients into the dirt. Since wood is biodegradable, it won't harm remain in the ground. It will eventually break up and disappear, leaving behind all those wonderful nutrients. You can make your own mulch by renting a wood chipper for the day and letting it take care of your old furniture. Just make sure to remove any paint or varnish on the wood because that will affect the mulch and the soil.

Your old furniture doesn't need to sit in storage forever. Recycle it (through an outlet such as Brampton Pallet Inc Recycled Pallets) and help the environment.
